2024 Plans
I realize that most people are planning Christmas celebrations right now. They're not really looking at the new year yet. But I think now is a great time to be thinking about the new year and what we want to accomplish. Especially when it comes to family. Now is the perfect time to be thinking about what you want to do next year to deepen your relationships. Since this blog is all about grandkids, here are a few things you might want to ponder.
Are there any changes you want to make in how you spend time with your grandkids? If they live close, you may want to set up specific times each month (for example; the 3rd Friday) or once a quarter that you spend time with your grandkids. And, do you want to spend it with all of them at once, or have one on one time with them? Make sure and check with the parents to see what works with their lives. You also want to think about what you want to do with your grandkids? Do you want to take them somewhere each time? Or do you want them to come and cook with you at your house? Maybe have a sleepover? Plan ahead so that everyone knows what's going on and when. The what can come later, getting it on the calendar is the most important step right now.
If they live far away, you may want to set a specific day of the month to FaceTime or Skype with your grandkids. You should also plan what you want to talk about during those FaceTime visits. You can send questions ahead of time. Or maybe you want to read a book together? Or work on a craft together? There are a lot of ways to spend time with each other even though it's long distance. It just takes a bit more planning ahead of time. But, if you can get the times on the calendar, it will make it much easier for everyone.
I hope this will help you think of ways to build your relationships with your grandkids. Obviously there are lots and lots of ways to do that. I just wanted you to start thinking about it now so when it does come time to write those new year's resolutions down, you include spending time with your grandkids. Hopefully that will be one resolution you can stick with for the entire year!
