Butterfly Birthday

Butterfly Birthday
Our granddaughter loved holding the butterflies!

Our youngest granddaughter's birthday is in late December. That's a really hard time of year to fit in a birthday experience. She is also into anything outdoors related, so we thought we'd try having her birthday experience with Grandma & Grandpa on her half birthday which is this week. It worked about pretty well.

Our son suggested we visit the butterfly biosphere at Thanksgiving Point. It's one of her favorite places to go. My husband and I have never been there. It was really fun and interesting. And our granddaughter loved it! My son was able to get several butterflies to land on his hand and then he would transfer them to her hand. They never stayed long on her hand since she moves so much, so he had to keep doing it again and again. But she really loved it.

My husband loves photography and he was able to take these amazing shots of the butterflies. We both really enjoyed it almost as much as she did.

I think the most important thing about creating birthday experiences is to be flexible and base the activity on the individual child. Some kids are ok going alone with grandma and grandpa and some aren't. So, you may need to have a parent come along or bring an activity to their home. The most important thing is to spend some quality time with each grandkid individually and create some great memories.

What are some of your favorite things to do with your grandkids? Please don't hesitate to share with us!
