Summer is the perfect time for grandparents to connect with their grandkids and create fun memories. With kids out of school, it's the perfect time to spend quality time with your grandkids. And mom & dad will love that you provided something for their kids to do! Here's a list of ideas for creating some summer fun with your grandkids.

  1. Outdoor Activities: Obviously summer is a great time to spend time outdoors! Go to a park, go camping, hiking, or visit a local garden. Ask your grandkids what they would like to do outside.
  2. Arts and Crafts: My grandkids love to craft! You can paint, scrapbook, sew, or any other craft project you know how to do and can teach them. Use Pinterest to look up "Crafts for kids" or "Crafts for teenagers" to help come up with other ideas.
  3. Cook and Bake Together: Grandparents can teach their grandkids family recipes and secret techniques. Spend an afternoon in the kitchen, whipping up delicious treats or preparing a special meal. Cooking brings people together like nothing else can.
  4. Contests and Games: Summer is the perfect time for friendly competition and playful activities. Plan a scavenger hunt, play board games, or play outdoor sports. These activities promote teamwork, laughter, and healthy competition.
  5. Plan Day Trips and Excursions: Plan visits to local museums, historical sites, zoos, or amusement parks. These outings provide an exciting break from routine and create great memories.
  6. Volunteer Together: Summer offers an excellent opportunity to teach grandkids the value of giving back to the community. Find local volunteering opportunities that align with their interests and spend time working together for a cause. This experience not only teaches compassion and empathy but also reinforces the importance of helping others who need help.
  7. Connect Virtually: In situations where distance may limit physical interaction, technology can bridge the gap. Grandparents and grandkids can connect through video calls, online storytelling sessions, or virtual tours of museums and landmarks. While not the same as in-person visits, these virtual experiences still allow for meaningful engagement and bonding.

Summer is a great time for grandparents to create fun memories and develop connections with their grandkids. So, let the summer adventures begin!
