They Got Out in Time!
As many of you know, we have been taking our grandkids on experiences for their birthdays instead of giving gifts. It was really fun finding different ways to spend time with each grandchild. So, for Christmas we decided to give an experience to each of our kids' families and gave them gift cards to an escape room.
For any who don't know, an escape room is set up with a mystery and some clues which allow you to work together to escape before time runs outs. I wasn't sure which one to choose, so I typed "best family escape rooms" by me. I chose the top rated one and bought gift certificates for each family.
I was a bit worried that the grandkids would be a little disappointed that they didn't get a new toy. But they all acted pretty excited about it.
My oldest son's family tried it out at the beginning of the year. He said they had a great time and they got out with 11 minutes to spare!
I have become a true believer in activity based gifts. I don't remember what I got last year for my birthday, but I sure remember the cruise I went on with my sisters and the cruise I went on with my husband and one of our other son's families. Not that physical gifts are bad, I just think having shared experiences gives us a chance to be really creative and build great memories!
